Consideration of examination model in related alcohol abuse patients [Avaliação de modelo de atendimento a pacientes com relato de abuso de álcool]

Abstract

In our region, the alcohol abuse related disturbances are between the most common neurologics disturbs that occur to patient that look for emergency care. In first study, analyzing 1901 patients with abuse related disturbances, we identified five diagnosis categories: alcohol direct effects and/or abstinence, digestive or metabolic diseases, infections, nutritional disorders and trauma. In second research, we check how much alcohol related disturbances show the same patient using a standartize examination that has the 5 diagnosis categories; in comparison the both research, this show more diagnosis. Objectives: check if proposal model can help doctors do an examination more appropriate of patients with this disturbs. Method: it is a prospective study. The examination model was shown to 88 doctors of Paraíba Valley during a quick interview. After 2 months, the doctors answered a questionnaire that assess if they use the model and if they improve their examination. Results: 88 doctors were approach in first phase and 83 in the second. The answer was in favor, 66,3% of doctors use the proposal model and 54,2% modify their examination. Conclusion: the examination model offer to patient with relate of alcohol abuse is useful and applicable for doctors in emergency room. © Copyright Moreira Jr. Editora. Todos os direitos reservados.
