Volta Redonda after the privatization of the National Steel Company [Volta Redonda após a privatização da Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional]

Abstract

This article summarizes the study that sought to assess possible changes in the economic scenario of the city of Volta Redonda after the privatization of the National Steel Company, their main source of income. The verification was performed by analyzing their business transactions and external indicators of employment and local income. It is a theoretical research through a bibliographical study delineated documentary received statistical treatment, whose aim is exploratory. It is observed that CSN has undergone a reduction of its staff for the privatization, reducing the number of jobs offered by the industry in the city and although the sectors of services and commerce have been growing in generating employment from the mid-1990s, were not able to absorb the local labor surplus. International trade, which could be an alternative to local economic growth is dependent, almost in its entirety, the CSN and world economic growth. Yet there is its influence on the indicators of the local labor market.
