Abstract: | Discussions on local production has been gaining an increasing relevance in the literature of industrial economics. This interest arises because of the changes before the competitive corporate environment, so such discussions imply the approach of theories that attempt to explain the relationship between economy and space. The notes indicate the theoretical evolution of the concept of development, with the valuation of industrial agglomerations and territorial assets. In this sense, this article seeks to examine the influences of local productive arrangements with the context of regional economic development. The research used the method literature from secondary sources of literature with a qualitative, descriptive of existing relations in this context of discussion. The results showed that, in the execution of policy studied in this work, the local clusters positively influence the achievement of their goals and constitute a strong support tool, having a prominent importance among the factors driving the development of regional economy. © 2014, Revista Brasileira de Gestao e Desenvolvimento Regional.
