State plan for water resources: Impacts in paraiba valley metropolitan region [Plano estadual de recursos hídricos: Impactos na região metropolitana do vale do paraíba]

Abstract

The State Plan of water resources of the State of São Paulo is an instrument of strategic nature, whose purpose is to guide the implementation of State policy on water resources and its management. The objective was to analyze the State Plan of water resources in quadrenniums 2000-2003, 2004-2007, 2008-2011 and 2012-2015 in the South Paraiba river basin and its effects on Regional development of the metropolitan region of Paraiba Valley. Analysis of water resource management which was planned and controlled in UGRHI 02- South Paraiba identified that in the period from 2002 to 2014 most indicators point to satisfactory results to the South Paraiba river basin. On the other hand, indicators that need monitoring or even redesign of the targets are all the ones included in the theme: Sanitation. The State Plan for Water Resources made positive contribution not only to the catchment area of South Paraiba river basin but also to the Paraiba Valley Metropolitan Region. © 2018, Universidade de Taubate.
