The scientific production of the Valley of the São Paulo Paraíba: A study of pointers [A produção científica do Vale do Paraíba Paulista: Um estudo de indicadores]

Abstract

The objective of this article is to present the scientific production indicators of Paraíba River Valley in the State of São Paulo. This research is based on a numerical survey of data extracted from Brazil's Research Group Directory, organized by CNPq and based on 2004 report. Seven institutions were analyzed. Results present information organized by institution, their research groups, related scientific production, number of publications per researcher, and a comparison with an earlier study for the State of São Paulo. Indicators showed that much of Valley's production is related to Engineering and Physical Sciences. This region congregates 5% of the States researchers who are associated with 268 research groups responsible for 12.5% of bibliographic production, 10.8% of concluded advisement, 24.9% of full papers published in proceedings, and 19% of articles published in international journals. The presented indicators could be applied to improving decision-making processes associated with the planning of public policies that promote regional development.
