A importância do cirurgião-dentista no ambiente hospitalar

Abstract

Resumo: A participação do cirurgião-dentista em âmbito hospitalar vem sendo debatida sobre sua importância, visto que a atenção primária à saúde bucal melhora significativamente a qualidade de vida dos pacientes em Unidade de Terapia Intensiva (UTI), e diminui o tempo de internação e custos hospitalares. O objetivo dessa revisão de literatura foi mostrar que a inclusão do cirurgião-dentista em uma equipe multidisciplinar, atuando com as demais áreas biomédicas, beneficia para a qualidade e rapidez no tratamento do paciente hospitalizado, a pesquisa foi realizada através de artigos publicados em revistas, livros e web sites, no período de 2006 a 2019. Os estudos da literatura mostraram que a inclusão do cirurgião-dentista em equipe multidisciplinar em âmbito hospitalar é de fundamental importância para o sucesso do tratamento do paciente, e prevenção de doenças sistêmicas associadas as condições bucais.

Abstract: The participation of the dentist in hospitals has been discussed on its importance, since primary oral health care significantly improves the quality of life of patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and decreases hospitalization time and hospital costs. The purpose of this literature review was to show that the inclusion of the dentist in a multidisciplinary team, working with the other biomedical areas, benefits the quality and speed of hospitalized patient treatment, through the analysis of articles published in magazines, books and web sites, from 2006 to 2019. The literature studies showed that the inclusion of the dentist in a multidisciplinary team in the hospital invironment is of fundamental importance to the success on the tratment of the patient, and for the prevention of systemic diseases associated with oral conditions.
