Pessoas normais : uma análise da geração millennial na literatura contemporânea

Abstract

Resumo: O tema da presente monografia é uma análise da geração millennial na literatura contemporânea a partir da obra Pessoas Normais, de Sally Rooney. Tomaremos como objeto de estudo a geração millennial e o romance Pessoas Normais. Como pergunta de pesquisa, temos: como se manifestam as principais características da geração millennial no romance? Os objetivos desta pesquisa são: 1) apresentar as principais características da geração millennial; 2) relacionar tais características com os eventos do romance Pessoas Normais; 3) discutir as personagens (millenials) Connell e Marianne. Tal pesquisa tem por justificativa salientar a relevância da compreensão acerca desta geração e evidenciar Sally Rooney como um dos principais nomes da literatura contemporânea e uma das pioneiras na representatividade da própria geração. A metodologia a ser empregada será a da pesquisa bibliográfica de cunho qualitativo. A fundamentação teórica se ancora em autores, como André Verzani, Carolina Lisboa, Dorothee Burke e Stella Butter. Como resultados, temos que Sally Rooney é uma autora que reflete seu tempo, assim como percebemos que os protagonistas do romance são jovens millenials que anseiam um lugar no mundo.

Abstract: The theme of this monograph is an analysis of the millennial generation in contemporary literature based on the novel Normal People, by Sally Rooney. We will take as an object of study the millennial generation and the novel Normal People. As a research question, we have: how are the main characteristics of the millennial generation manifested in the novel? The goals of this research are: 1) to present the main characteristics of the millennial generation; 2) relate such characteristics with the events of the novel Normal People; 3) discuss the (millennial) characters Connell and Marianne. Such research is justified by highlighting the relevance of understanding this generation and highlighting Sally Rooney as one of the first names in contemporary literature and one of the first authors that represents her own generation in her literature. The methodology to be used will be the bibliographical research of a qualitative nature. The theoretical foundation is based on authors, such as André Verzani, Carolina Lisboa, Dorothee Burke and Stella Butter. As a result, we understand that Sally Rooney is an author that reflects her own time, and we understand that the main characters of the novel are millennials that search for their place in the world.
