O crescimento empobrecedor : uma análise do estado do Mato Grosso de 2012 a 2019

Abstract

Resumo: A teoria do crescimento empobrecedor trouxe a ideia de que o crescimento das nações mais pobres, poderia ser, em uma situação específica, autodestrutiva. Assim, se um país tiver um crescimento viesado para exportações, ele pode assistir a uma piora demasiadamente dos termos de troca, a ponto de a situação ser pior do que se não houvesse crescimento. Essa situação de piora é conhecida como crescimento empobrecedor ou "maldição dos recursos". A partir desta teoria o objetivo do estudo é aplicar ao estado do Mato Grosso, uma vez que estes estados vem expandindo suas atividades econômicas voltadas à exportação. O estudo se justifica à medida que é importante o entendimento de como a expansão das exportações e as variações dos preços internacionais das commodities tem influenciado as condições econômicas de regiões fortemente voltadas para exportação. A metodologia usada é o estudo de caso, uma vez que a análise e diagnóstico econômico ocorreu no estado do Mato Grosso, grande exportador de commodities. O estado vem crescendo ano a ano no âmbito da produção de mercadorias voltadas à exportação. A finalidade do estudo é contribuir com a evolução da teoria e servir de base de estudos para pesquisadores e outros estudantes que buscam evoluir no entendimento do tema crescimento empobrecedor.

Abstract: The immiserizing growth theory brought the idea that the growth of the poorest nations could be, in a specific situation, self-destructive. So, if a country has export-biased growth, it can see the terms of trade worsen too much, to the point here the situation is worse than if there was no growth. This worsening situation is known as immiserizing growth or the "resource curse". From this theory, the objective of the study is to apply to the state of Mato Grosso, since these states have been expanding their economic activities aimed at exporting. The study is justified as it is important to understand how the expansion of exports and variations in international commodity prices have influenced the economic conditions of regions strongly geared towards exports. The methodology used is the case study, since the economic analysis and diagnosis took place in the state of Mato Grosso, a major commodity exporter. The state has been growing year after year in terms of the production of export-oriented goods. The purpose of the study is to contribute to the evolution of the theory and to serve as a basis for studies for researchers and other students who seek to evolve in the understanding of the topic impoverishing growth.
