Expansão do eucalipto no trecho paulista da bacia hidrográfica Paraíba do Sul

Abstract

Resumo:A bacia hidrográfica do Paraíba do Sul tem sido usada para diversas atividades agrícolas há mais de quatrocentos anos. Recentemente, a expansão do plantio do eucalipto na bacia tem provocado questionamentos sobre as interferências ambientais e socioeconômicas. Dessa forma, essa pesquisa teve por objetivo avaliar a expansão da área plantada com eucalipto, por município, no trecho paulista da bacia hidrográfica do Paraíba do Sul entre 2000 e 2007. A metodologia envolveu a identificação e o mapeamento de talhões de eucalipto em 2007 com base na análise e interpretação das imagens TM/Landsat-5 (2006/2007) usando como referência o mapeamento realizado pelo Instituto Florestal de São Paulo (IF) relativo ao ano base de 2000. Dessa forma, foi gerado o mapa temático das áreas de ocorrência dos plantios em 2007 que foi recortado pelos limites dos municípios que ocorrem nessa bacia hidrográfica. Com base no modelo digital de terreno (MDT), obtido a partir das cartas topográficas 1:50.000 do IBGE, foi feito o levantamento das Áreas de Preservação Permanente de: margens de rios de até 10 m, declividade maior ou igual a 45º e APP de nascentes. Foi feito o cruzamento das APP com as áreas plantadas com eucalipto e com a malha municipal. Os dados da estimativa das áreas plantadas foram comparados com os dados referentes ao ano de 2000 do IF e revelou um aumento de 32,2% na área plantada com eucalipto na região até 2007. O resultado da estimativa de 2007 foi comparado com dados do Projeto LUPA da Secretaria de Agricultura a Abastecimento de São Paulo referentes a 2007 e apenas uma diferença de 1,4% foi encontrada, considerando o conjunto de todos os municípios. Foi observado que a expansão dos cultivos ocorreu nos três dos tipos de APP analisados, assim como, em áreas serranas.

Abstract:The Paraíba do Sul basin has been used for several agricultural activities for more than four hundred years. Recently, the expansion of Eucalyptus plantations in this basin has led to questions about environmental and socioeconomic issues. This study assessed the expansion of the area planted to Eucalyptus, by municipality, in São Paulo state, in the river basin of the Paraíba do Sul from 2000 to 2007. The methodology of this study involved the identification and mapping of Eucalyptus in 2007 based on the analysis and interpretation of Landsat-5 TM imagery acquired in 2006/2007 using the mapping produced by the Forestry Institute of São Paulo (IF) for the year 2000 as a reference. Thus, a thematic map of the occurrence of Eucalyptus in 2007 was generated and overlaid upon the boundaries of the municipalities of the basin. Areal estimates of Eucalyptus plantations of each municipality were compared with data from the year 2000 (IF) and revealed an increase of 32.2% in the cultivated area in the region up to 2007. The results from 2007 were also compared with data from the project LUPA from the Secretary of Agriculture of São Paulo State also from 2007 and a difference of only 1.4% was found, considering the set of all municipalities. Based on a digital elevation model (DEM) obtained from the 1:50,000 topographic maps of IBGE, an outline of Permanent Preservation Areas (PPA) was done for: rivers up to 10 m wide, slopes greater than or equal to 45 degrees and around water springs. Then, an overlay of the PPA layer was superimposed to the map of areas planted with Eucalyptus and municipalities boundaries. It was observed that the expansion of crops occurred in all three types of APP analyzed, and in mountainous areas.
